The best of JEE of 2008

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

It’s time to summarize the best of Java tools of 2008 as seen from the Spring Centre of Excellence. Be sure to take a look at every item in the list, you will not be wasting your time.

Spring Framework

We begin with the usual suspect, the Spring Framework. Spring is a light-weight alternative to EJBs. At its core, it is a dependency injection container and AOP runtime, but includes many other technologies that make up today’s Java EE applications.
Head off to springframework.org and download the latest release version. To get you started, get our latest book, Pro Spring 2.5.

SpringSource dm Server

The dm Server and Spring Dynamic Modules bring advances to Java EE application deployment and management similar to the adances the Spring Framework brought to Java EE development.
Go to SpringSource dm Server, download it and give it a try.

Merry Christmas and mud

First of all, I’d like to say

Merry Christmas and happy New Year to everyone!

I’m staying at my parents’ house over Christmas, which means that I’m doing a bit of mountain bike training. I have two observations: it is much harder work riding the MTB than my road bike and it is incredibly easy to get muddy from head to toe! Over the last three days, I’ve always managed to have mud behind my ears when I got home.
