Many organisations are undertaking major upgrades of their computer systems, phasing out some older systems and replacing them with modern software.

The problem of what to do with their legacy data is an inevitable consequence of such an initiative. There may be a statutory obligation to retain it or other reasons for maintaining easy access to it. Continuing to pay software license fees to run the application just to view this archive data is obviously undesirable. And if the entire platform is being replaced, that option may not even be available. DataNovata is a tool designed to solve the problem of what to do with data on an existing Relational Database when a new application system is being implemented or legacy application gets decommissioned / retirement. In any circumstances the amount of data can be quite large and what to do with the historical data can be a major problem. Non-relational databases can be converted in to relational databases to use the DataNovata tool.

Quite often the choices are:

1) Keep the old application going for six years as a READ ONLY system

2) Migrate the data to the new system
3) Find some other way of archiving the data.

DataNovata solves this problem:

DataNovata extracts data definitions and relationships from the Relational Database and immediately builds a web-enabled Java application. This application provides a modern and flexible front-end to access the Relational Database, with the inbuilt security suite enabling protection of sensitive data.

If the application is not on a relational database but an earlier type of file structure then our Powerdrive tools can be used to convert the data files into a Relational database structure so that DataNovata can be used to inquire upon the data.
