As I assume many people did when they were younger, at some stage I wanted to run away with the circus - probably inspired by watching Dumbo one too many times. However due to my lack of being able to juggle flaming chainsaws or perform the most rudimentary magic tricks, I stayed home and many years later ended up as a Project Manager.

To thrive in today’s go-fast tech driven economy, a business needs to embrace uncertainty like never before, being able to accommodate rapid, unpredictable change, if that’s not an oxymoron.

We’ve had two Black Swan events happen in the last six months - first, Brexit and now the results of the US Presidential Election - I had doubted either would ever happen, but we’ve all been kicked out of our complacency. The world is suddenly a lot less predictable than we thought.

Ever since I was a nipper, I’ve had a fascination with the RAF. The evolution from the Bi and Triplanes of WWI through to the modern day VTOL jets, whether it was watching the Battle of Britain or the The Memphis Belle, or pedalling my bike down Chapel Hill, the steepest hill in Rawtenstall, pretending it was a Spitfire Mark I on a top secret mission for RAF Fighter Command, I’ve been hooked. So to follow this passion I became a project manager in software development...

With all the hype around Star Wars, some may have overlooked that very recently Netflix added all the old Star Trek episodes to their vast library of films and TV shows. Recently I began watching Star Trek: The Next Generation, and while I was following the exploits of Jean Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise, I began thinking about teamwork, as it featured so much in their exploits.
